Description

Looking for a new twist for your avocado toast habit? Easy spicy avocado toast two ways to the rescue! One version is more exotic with shichimi togarashi seasoning (spicy, citrusy, sesame), the other is more traditional with crushed red pepper flakes and diced tomatoes (spicy, toasty, juicy).

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of bread (whole grain, sourdough, English muffin, etc.)
  • 1 tablespoon of mayonaisse
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced
  • 1/2 fresh lime
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

For shichimi togarashi version:

  • 1/2 teaspoon of shichimi togarashi, or more to taste

For crushed red pepper version:

  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper, or more to taste
  • 1 Roma tomato, or 1/2 of a regular tomato, diced

Instructions

  1. Toast your bread.
  2. While the bread is toasting, slice the avocado.
  3. Immediately spread the toast with mayonnaise while still warm. It’s SO much better warm.
  4. Add sliced avocado on top of the mayonnaise. Using a fork, smash the avocado on to the bread.
  5. Squeeze the lime over the avocado, then sprinkle with kosher salt.
  6. If using shichimi togarashi, sprinkle on to taste.
  7. If using crushed red peppers, sprinkle on to taste, then top with tomato and a final sprinkle of kosher salt on the tomatoes. Chow down.
